Every day, vessels from every corner of the globe line up to pass through the Panama Canal, one of the most vital shortcuts in maritime trade. We are proud to announce that We’ve opened a new branch in Panama, and honestly, it feels like the right place for us to be. Ships from every part of the world pass through this stretch of water every single day, using the canal as the shortcut that saves them weeks at sea. We’ve wanted to have a real presence here for a while now, and quite a few of the operators we already work with kept nudging us to bring our services closer to Panama. So here we are.
Master Systems, S.A (Panama) is now open at Calle 1ra, PH Cardenas Center, 5, Corregimiento de Ancón, Distrito de Panamá, Provincia de Panamá. If you’re a vessel owner, operator, or crew member who needs marine electronics, navigation support, or safety servicing while passing through or calling at Panama, this office is for you.
You can reach the Panama team directly at Panama@mastersystems.com.
The Panama Canal doesn’t need much of an introduction. It links the Atlantic and Pacific, and without it, ships would be sailing all the way around South America instead. Every year, thousands of vessels line up to make the crossing: container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, cruise liners, all of them relying on the same narrow stretch of water.
Getting through that crossing isn’t something you want to leave to chance. Navigation systems, communication equipment, safety gear all of it needs to be working properly before a ship even reaches the canal, and the Panama Canal Authority doesn’t leave much room for equipment trouble or last-minute fixes. Having someone based right here, who can turn inspections and repairs around quickly, makes a real difference. It means a vessel isn’t stuck waiting, and a small issue doesn’t end up costing days of transit time.
That’s really the reason behind this branch. Panama sits on one of the most important shipping routes on the planet, and our clients have been asking us to be closer to it for some time now.
We’ve built our reputation over the years on showing up when it counts, responding fast, working the way class societies and flag administrations expect, and keeping vessels moving instead of stuck at berth waiting on repairs. Setting up in Panama is really just an extension of that. It puts us on one of the busiest shipping corridors in the world, doing the same work we’ve always done, just closer to where it’s needed.
Over the years we’ve ended up covering pretty much everything a vessel’s bridge and safety systems could need, and the Panama branch carries all of that forward. On the navigation side, our engineers work on major gyro compass and autopilot systems: Anschutz, Sperry, autopilots, rudder angle indicators, cascade systems, magnetic compass calibration, speedlogs, GPS/DGPS units, and ECDIS. If it’s part of how a ship finds its way and holds its course, chances are we can service, calibrate, or repair it.
Communication and data recording are another big part of what we do day to day. We handle VDR and S-VDR servicing across the major networks: Danelec, Rutter, Netwave, along with NSR support. Add to that Furuno and JRC equipment, Jotron supply, VHF/UHF radios, VSAT terminals, and radio surveys, and you’ve got a vessel that stays connected and compliant wherever it’s headed next.
Safety work is probably where we’ve grown the most. As a certified lifeboat company, we carry out full lifeboat inspection and repair, including Fassmer lifeboats, along with life raft supply and complete LSA/FFA inspection and servicing. On gas detection, we support both Crowcon fixed systems and Honeywell gas detection, so crews can trust their monitoring equipment when it actually matters.
Beyond the equipment side, we also work as an offshore safety contractor and marine safety contractor, supply marine spare parts, act as a shipchandler for vessels in port, and take on yacht repair work too.
None of this happened overnight. It’s come from years of working alongside shipowners, operators, and crews, paying attention to what they actually needed at each port, and building up the technical skill and supplier relationships to back it up. The Panama branch starts from that same foundation, so vessels calling here get the same level of support they’d find anywhere else in our network.
Vessels transiting the canal often run on tight schedules, and any hold-up in servicing or certification can throw off the whole voyage. Having a branch here means we can respond faster to vessels calling at Panama, work directly with crews and operators, and get servicing done without the delays that come from relying on an office somewhere far away.
That’s really what this branch comes down to: being present where ships need us most, and helping keep them safe, compliant, and moving through one of the most important waterways in the world.
