Japan Radio Co (JRC) has released its updated Service Parts Supply Status List for discontinued models, current as of May 2026. If you’re running JRC navigation, communication, or safety equipment on board, this list is worth a close look, because it tells you exactly which units no longer have full parts support, and which ones are getting close.

Here’s what the list actually covers, and what it means for your fleet.

What the list tells you

JRC groups every discontinued model into one of three support categories:

X – all service parts are still available

X″ – service parts are available, but some limited parts are not

N/A – no service parts available at all

That last category is the one that matters most operationally. If a unit on your vessel is marked N/A, JRC will not supply spares for it. Any failure means a retrofit, a replacement, or a scramble for parts on the secondary market.

Equipment now completely out of parts support

Across radio, radar, navigation, and safety systems, a long list of once-standard JRC equipment now sits in the N/A column. A few examples straight from the list:

Radio communications: The JSS-296, JSS-596, and JSS-896 MF/HF radios are all N/A, replaced by the JSS-2150/2250/2500 range. The JSB-196 and JSB-196GM are also N/A, with the JSS-2150 as the specified replacement. The JHS-182 AIS and NCR-330 NAVTEX are also unsupported, replaced by the JHS-183 and NCR-333 respectively.

Radar and navigation: The JMA-9900 and JMA-900B Series radars are both N/A, replaced by the JMR-9200 Series. The JAN-2000 ECDIS and its CONNING variant (JAN-2000-CON) are also unsupported, with JAN-7201S/9201S and JAN-7202/9202 as the recommended paths forward. Older GPS units like the JLR-4340 sensor and JLR-7700MK2 navigator are similarly out of parts.

Safety and voyage recording: EPIRB model JQE-3A, SART model JQX-30A, and VDR/S-VDR units JCY-1700, JCY-1700S, JCY-1800, and JCY-1850 are all N/A. For the JCY-1800 and JCY-1850, JRC notes that the periodic replacement kit for the recording control unit (UPS) and the underwater acoustic beacon are still in stock, even though full parts support has ended.

INMARSAT and fax equipment: The JUE-75C and JUE-85 INMARSAT-C terminals, and the JAX-831 INMARSAT fax, are also unsupported.

This is far from the complete picture, the full JRC list runs to dozens of models across MF/HF radio, VHF, UHF, GPS compasses, echo sounders, Doppler logs, BNWAS, and more.

Equipment on the watch list (X″ status)

A second group of equipment still has parts support, but only partially. Units like the JHS-770S and JHS-780D VHF radiotelephones, the JMA-7100 and JMA-9100 radar series, the JAN-701B and JAN-901B ECDIS units, and the JLR-7500/7600 GPS navigators fall into this X″ category. These aren’t urgent, but they’re worth flagging now rather than discovering the gap when something breaks mid-voyage.

Why this matters for planning, not just maintenance

An N/A rating doesn’t mean the equipment stops working. It means that when it does eventually fail, there’s no official channel to fix it. For vessels on tight trading schedules, that turns a routine repair into an unplanned dry-dock event or a compliance issue if the equipment in question is tied to SOLAS carriage requirements. The smart move is to treat this list as a planning document, not a warning to react to after a breakdown. Knowing which units on your vessel are already unsupported, or heading that way, lets you budget for retrofits on your own timeline instead of JRC’s.
